"Mom, I'm Bored!" - Summer Boredom Buster Ideas

Are you tired of hearing "I'm bored" from your kids this summer? Look no further! This printable boredom busters list is here to save the day. With two versions available - color and black/white for coloring - your child will have endless entertainment at their fingertips. Whether you prefer to type in their ideas using Adobe Reader or simply print and write, this list is sure to spark their creativity and keep them busy all summer long.

Four Categories of Activities

This boredom busters list is divided into four categories: outside, play, for others, and creative. Suggest they choose one item from each category every day. I like to list activities that children can do mostly on their own! Add ideas to each category with your kiddos. Here are some ideas to get you started.

1) Outside

All kids need to get outside to get some energy out every day. My kids and I try to get outside in the morning before it gets too hot.

  • Play in the sprinkler
  • Ride your bike
  • Draw with sidewalk chalk
  • Shoot basketball

2) Play

List ideas for imaginative play or reminders of toys that they don't get out often.

  • Build a fort
  • Set up dominoes and make a video of the fall
  • Lego building competition
  • Make a zoo or vet clinic for stuffed animals
  • Build a ramp for toy cars

3) For Others

Teach your child to think of others first by suggesting some acts of kindness.

  • Help a parent with a chore or project
  • Write a letter to a friend
  • Make a card for an elderly relative
  • Read a book to a younger sibling

4) Creative

Make sure your craft cabinet is fully stocked this summer!

  • Color a picture
  • Watch a drawing video and draw along
  • Paint a picture
  • Write a poem
  • Write a new song or rewrite the lyrics to a familiar tune
  • Practice a song to sing or play for mom and dad
  • Make a rubber band or bead bracelet
  • Play with play dough
