The story of Noah and the ark ends with God creating the rainbow as a sign of his covenant or promise to never again flood the whole earth. (Genesis 7-9) Rainbows are a beautiful reminder that God keeps his promises. This printable rainbow yarn craft is easy and fun!
The stripes of the rainbow are made by stacking semicircles of each color. Then you punch a hole in the bottom of each stripe and attach coordinating colored yarn. I used 12 inch pieces of yarn and folded them in half. 12 inches is easy for kids to measure next to a ruler. Then push the folded end through the hole. Stick the ends of the yarn through the loop and pull tight. Easy! Once you have attached all the yarn, you can trim the ends with scissors to make them even. I used this set of rainbow yarn on Amazon.

This craft does have many steps so allow plenty of time. You can cut down on crafting time by using semicircles that are already colored. The printable template comes with a color and black & white versions. If you are using this craft for a whole classroom, then you can use the 12-up template for printing on colored paper.
I suggest printing on regular paper (not card stock) so that the hole punch will go through all the pieces. If you would like your yarn to lay straight, you can use a clothes steamer or iron before attaching it to the paper rainbow. Be sure to use a low setting if the yarn is a synthetic material.
